                                                    Perkins was the mother of
                                                    two daughters when John married
                                                    her. They appear to have
also raised a male they called "Flood"
                                                    that was probably not John's
                                            son. |
                                    |
Some sources say that John fathered
about 21 children but not all
of them lived. I could only find
references to these 12 children. | |                            John was born
near Madison, Indiana in 1821. The state capital
would be changed that year from Croydon, IN to Indianapolis.
There is no hard evidence, yet, to explain who John's
parents were nor why they located near Madison, Indiana.
                            There is some evidence,
however. that he was not raised by his parents, but
                            by his [Uncle?
What was his occupation? Where did he live?]...   [What was life
like for 'regular people' in the Madison, Indiana
area in 1821 and the following few years? What most
influenced their lives?] The government was aggressively trying to expel the indians
from this new state and the Delaware indians near Madison
were at best restless and sometimes belligerent toward
settlers in this area. James Monroe had been re-elected to his second term as
president of the country. [ So
What? How did this effect the lives of people in Madison
