Thompson was born
March 6, 1873. Thompson worked on a riverboat and was rarely home but would send his wife (Tlitha) money for the family. She did odd jobs like washings, etc.. and saved the money her husband sent her. She gave it back to Thompson when he returned home. The family says that she was a very hard worker. Tlitha died in November 1935. Thompson Hopper placed the blade of his razor in the fork of a tree in 1945 and cut his own throat. He died several days later. I was
told by Mrs. Alvey (Etta) (Maude) Hopper that Thompson was a
religious man. It is generally agreed by people who knew him that he was a good and devout Christian man. Interviews with local people who knew him indicates that he would often be seen walking and apparently talking to himself then, unexpectedly, would raise his hands and loudly proclaim "Amen!". A prayer (or sermon) was found tucked inside the family bible. [ Click here to read Thompson's writings. ] Children of Thompson (Poppy) and Tlytha include:
