General Affidavit

George Hopper

State Of, Kentucky;
County of Owen. ss:

In the matter of Minors of John W. Hopper, Co. , B. 79th Indiana infantry N. L. No, 647,098, personally came before me a Notary Public in and for the aforesaid county and state, George W. Hopper, age 19 years past, a citizen of the town of Gestville, County of Henry and state of Kentucky, well known to me to be reputable and entitled to credit and who being duly sworn declares in relation to aforesaid case as follows:

That he will be twenty years old on the 29th day of next September, that he is a son of the said John W. Hopper, dec’d and a brother to Dora, Bessie and Lulie Hopper named in said claim. That his mother and the mother of his said sisters died in the year 1886 but that he does not know the exact date. That his father died in Monterey, Ky., Sept. 11, 1896, that the only family bible or testament known to him kept by his father in which a record of the birth of children by his father kept was recently found by affiant at the house of one Marticia Hopper who is a widow of the son of the said John Hopper by his first marriage and whose name was Frank Hopper. That said Frank Hopper left this country some fifteen or twenty years ago. Said former wife of John W. Hopper dec'd having died some thirty years ago as affiant is informed. He says that the record found by him is on the front fly leaf of a testament and Psalms owned by his father John W. Hopper and said record is in the hand writing of his father now deceased and all of the said record so made by his father in said book reads as follows: :

That said testament was published in the year 1892 by the American Bible Society of New York. He further declares that he is able to read writing and he knows that the said names are in his father's hand writing and appears to have been made at the same time and with the same kind of ink. That he has no interest in said claim and is not concerned in its prosecution. That he cannot write intel1igent1y. That his Post-Office address is Gest Henry County, Ky.,

Sworn to and subscribed before me this day by named affiant and 1 certify that I read said affidavit to said affiant and acquainted him with its contents before he executed the same. I further certify that 1 have carefully examined said testament and the record described in said affidavit arid find that said book was published in 1892 by The American Bible Society of New York. That said book is in a fair state of preservation except the covers which are much worn, said book having the appearance of having been used quite a great deal.

to have been written at the same time and six or seven years ago and from my knowledge of the writing of the deceased John W. Hopper who often cashed checks at the bank of which 1 was and am now Cashier 1 am sure that the same is in the handwriting of said Hopper and same is correctly set out in the foregoing affidavit. 1 farther certify that 1 am in no wise interested in this case nor am 1 concerned in its prosecution and that said affiant is personally known to me. That he is a credible person and so respected in the community in which he resides. Witness my hand and official seal, this 30, day of June, 1900,
