Our Hopper Family

Dan & Norma Hopper - 2002Dan and Norma Hopper

Who are the Hoppers
and where did they come from?

Research reveals that the early Hopper family helped settle northern Kentucky near what is now a small town called Gest, KY, formerly Gestville. They were pioneers who later moved to the Northwest Territory to what is now Jefferson County, IN near a town called Madison. (Indiana had become a state only a few years earlier) . There was a trail there called the Hopper Trail leading from the wilderness near that town to the Ohio River.

There is no evidence that early Hoppers were grand public heroes. They were unquestioningly hard working people who became the meat, bone, and fiber that helped change the wilderness of this new land into the grand country it has become.

What moved these people to live where the lived, move when they did, and what was going on in the world around them that had an effect on their lives?
